Mac Danzig vs. Joe Stevenson targeted for UFC 124 in Montreal

A lightweight bout between "The Ultimate Fighter 2" winner Joe Stevenson (31-11 MMA, 8-5 UFC) and "TUF 6" champ Mac Danzig (19-8-1 MMA, 3-4 UFC) is expected to be part of December's UFC 124 event.

A source close to one of the competitors today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) the bout soon will be finalized.

UFC 124 takes place Dec. 11 at the Bell Centre in Montreal and features a welterweight title fight between current champion Georges St-Pierre and top contender Josh Koscheck.

The night's main card airs on pay-per-view, though it's unclear if Stevenson vs. Danzig will make the broadcast. (As MMAjunkie.com previously reported, UFC 124 will not get a "UFC Prelims" broadcast.)

Stevenson suffered back-to-back losses to top contenders Kenny Florian and Diego Sanchez before he rebounded in 2009 with wins over Nate Diaz and Spencer Fisher. But in a key bout at UFC 110 earlier this year, he suffered a decision loss to contender George Sotiropoulos in a "Fight of the Night" award winner.

It was Stevenson's third such bonus in his past four fights.

Danzig, meanwhile, desperately needs a win following a recent 1-4 (and 3-6) skid. After stopping a three-fight losing streak with a unanimous-decision win over Justin Buchholz, the Los Angeles-based fighter then dropped a submission victory to Matt Wiman earlier this year at UFC 115. However, the ref misjudged the hold and thought Danzig had gone to sleep from the choke, though the fighter quickly bounced to his feet to protest.

The botched call likely earned him one more fight in the UFC. It was expected to come this past month at UFC Fight Night 22, but a chest injury forced Danzig out of a scheduled rematch and co-headliner with Wiman.

Yeah saw this on junkie and mania but didn't care enough to post it haha.

i can see them releasing Mac but not Joe Daddy, of his last 5 fights, 3 have been FOTN and he's 8-5 in the UFC
