Dana says on SportsCenter Sonnen will get rematch

UFC President Dana White this morning appeared on ESPN's SportsCenter and with that made an announcement that some fans may love, others not so much.

Chael Sonnen vs Anderson Silva 2 will be the next title fight in the UFC's middleweight division. White admitted that this is the fight the fans want to see, and his job is to make those type of fights come together. No announcement was made regarding when the fight would happen, though it likely won't be until early next year as Anderson Silva recovers from injury.

Isn't really news, we knew this would happen as soon as the first fight ended.

No not really. In fact, Chael came out and said Anderson would not be his next fight since he wasn't going to sit around and wait.

Chael said Anderson wouldn't be his next fight but he would be Anderson's next fight. It was pretty obvious after how the fight turned out to be dramatic and successful that a rematch would be made as soon as Anderson recovers.

Yes Chael was implying that he was going to beat whoever and THEN fight Spider, just being the confident loud mouth he is. This fight was in no way a "given". Especially when Vitor has always been wating for the shot he was promised.

Chael didnt want to wait but when dana said its a title fight or nothing im sure sonnen could agree.

So they're going to make Sonnen sit on the sidelines until Silva recovers ??

Sonnen got a rematch because Silva got a fluke submission at the very end after getting his body violated and then pounded on by Sonnen for 4.75 rounds.

What is a fluke submission? Was it an accident?

With the whopping he put on Andy for 4 and 1/2 rounds, he deserves another shot.

If a long time champion loses a close fight he deserves a rematch. When a challenger that has never been champ loses his title shot he moves along for the next contender.

Even Nate Marquardt came very close to submitting Sonnen.

ill take sonnen in the rematch and this time he will finish it.

This is a must, especially since Chael gave Anderson his first real fight in a long time. Dana sees the dollar signs here, this is going to be a huge rematch after what Chael did to Anderson the first time around.

I love it when guys back up their trash talk. So often they talk shit about the champ and then get smashed, this time Chael made good on his talk.

Let's be honest here. The lack of MW challengers also plays a factor in this. Not just the lack of current guys but the lack of guys over the last few years. If Anderson had broke a sweat in any of his past fights we might not be seeing this rematch. It is as much a factor as Sonnen's performance.
