What Are Ben Askren's Chances vs Hornbuckle????

They're both purple belts in BJJ, but one has Olympic caliber wrestling, the other has a Shire Hobbit family surname.

No chance Hornbuckle can keep this on his feet. It is just as likely if not more likely Askren could sub Hornbuckle than it is the other way around. Equal rank in BJJ, so the advantage has to go with the guy with the athletic and wrestling/control advantage.

Askren wins via decision.

Dan ain't subbin a guy with top control like that. That would be shocking. His purple belt aint worth more than Askrens.

Askren should be the big favorite coming into this.

dude everyone knows belts dont always mean what you think. I see blue belts sub brown belts in practice all the time. Hornbuckle has legit bjj, i don't see askren subing him, if anything askren LnP's his way to a decision.

Askren has legit BJJ too. He has as good or better partners and trainers, and the wrestling base he has gives him a leg up big time. Ben by smothering top control.

I was split on this fight before, but now I'm leaning towards Ben, I think he could easily control this fight with wrestling, a little GnP, maybe some LnP and win a decision.

Oggy - I saw a yellow belt win a Judo match with a black belt last year. The athletic pedigree and wrestling base of the yellow belt was the difference. That will be the difference here. Who with legit submission chops has Hornbuckle sub'd? This the same Dan Hornbuckle I saw get triangled in Sengoku last year? No, he ain't subbing Askren.

Anything can happen, but that just isn't a likely result IMO.

Don't get me wrong, I think quite a bit of Hornbuckle as an up and coming WW himself, but Askren is destined for UFC gold in the future. Hornbuckle is destined for UFC losses to Jon Fitch.

It is a pretty basic matchup disparity when striker with purple in BJJ meets wrestler with purple in BJJ.

Long Answer : because whenever I look at it the season is in the middle or something and I forget until it is too late again, and one of em makes you pick the entire card and fights I can't comfortably pick, so I don't bother with it. Also I pick my fighters too much, get shitty records(thanks Ultimate 2008) and it reflects poorly on my real MMA knowledge. Wasn't Andrew winning this thing for a while? Nuff said.

Drew actually knows how to pick fights, even though I own him head to head in Pick'em, he has like the best ratio in that, for now
