Jason High released by UFC

Welterweight Jason High (9-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) says he's been released from the UFC.

"The Kansas City Bandit" signed a four-fight deal with the organization in February, but he was able to utilize just one of those contests before departing from the promotion.

"Received my UFC walking papers today," High posted on his Twitter account. "One door closes another opens. ... You know how the saying goes."

High lost a unanimous decision to fellow UFC newcomer Charlie Brenneman (11-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) at March's "UFC Fight Night 21: Florian vs. Gomi" event in North Carolina.

I would have liked to see him get 1 more shot in UFC. But I guess you can't lose to the Pros vs Joes champ.

I wonder how that works if they cut you while you still have fights left on your contract? Do they have to pay you something for not giving you your remaining fights or are you screwed?

2-3 in his last 5, been ko'd twice in that time. still only 28.

not sure, I'd expect a buyout in most situations, but the UFC seems to dominate these negotiations so I'd think that here the fighter is screwed.

Yeah it's the ufc. There contacts probably make you pay them if they have to cut you early. lol

Well, atleast it shows UFC counts what happened in DREAM as well. 2 fight losing streak typically means release if your not an established name...that said, i think they should have given Jason High one more fight.

Pretty quick. I was expecting a lot better performance from him in that fight though

He didn't deserve that contract in the first place. He was knocked oxygen mask ambulance ride unconcsious twice in high profile shows in recent bouts.

Strikeforce and Dream veteran Jason High is in the UFC once again after a three-year absence. The welterweight has been scheduled for a June 8th meeting with Ildemar Alcantara, who is dropping from 205 lbs to 170 lbs for this one. News of this fight was first reported by Tatame magazine.

High (16-3) had only one fight in the UFC, a decision loss to Charlie Brenneman at UFC Fight Night 21 in March 2010. That gave him his 2nd straight loss -- he was knocked out by Marius Zaromskis in Dream -- and an immediate release. He's since won his last 7, including over Hayato Sakurai, Jordan Mein, and Quinn Mulhern. High's last three fights have all taken place under the Strikeforce banner, with his final fight a 26 second submission win over Nate Moore.

Alcantara (18-5) was the #5 ranked middleweight on the 2012 Bloody Elbow Scouting Report. He subbed in for the injured Roger Hollett to face Wagner Prado in a light-heavyweight fight at UFC on FX 7. Alcantara pulled off a kneebar submission win in the 2nd round to send Prado out of the UFC. Now Ildemar, who is the brother of current UFC bantamweight Yuri Alcantara, is making the very rare multi-weight class change from LHW directly to WW.

UFC on Fuel 10 doubles as the TUF Brazil 2 Finale in Fortaleza, Brazil. Coaches Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Fabricio Werdum are expected to headline the event.
