How much $$$ is at stake for Shields?

With a win he's a p4p free agent on a long winning streak in the middle of the bidding war.

With a loss he's a not so entertaining fighter who (assumingly) was exposed in a major way.

I know Kings said sf has a one fight option(which I'm surprised they haven't already picked up), but there is no doubt that there is tons of cash on the table, and to get it, shields needs to beat Hendo.

IMO even a brutal KO at MW doesn't kill his stock as a WW. A win and he is in much better shape but a loss doesn't kill him here IMO.

I think it does because with a win we are talking ALOT of money. With a loss he's looking at below Fitch type $$$. A loss does not end his career, but it hurts his bargaining power in a big way.

A win gives him a huge jump I agree. But a loss here doesn't change what his WW value would have been had this fight never happenend. A win here gives him a major jump but a loss here doesn't lower his current stock IMO.

He's a free agent? I can't believe Coker doesn't have some kind of "Champion's" clause in the contract.

How much $$$ is at stake for Shields? A shit load. I think he only comes to the ufc if he loses though. If Shields wins Dana will just make sf pay him loads of money because he will compete for his contract making sf up there price then he'll pull out. Dana already said Hendo was done so why would he bring in the guy who beats him? All Dana would say is he told us Dan wasn't good or some shit.

Excellent thread. If he beats Hendo then the UFC could sign him for a huge fight vs GSP and a huge payday. And if he loses the hype is gone. He's just another non UFC guy who's pretty good.

It will definitely hurt after Hendo beats him. His MW value will be nil, and his WW value will take a hit. We all know he's a solid top-10 if not top-5 WW, but he's not super marketable and bores the average fan to death. The ONLY way he gets good cash from the UFC is if he somehow pulls the stunner of the century by finishing Hendo...
