The UFC files a $640,000 lawsuit against an Allston, Massachusetts bar

The UFC have wasted no time making good on their promise of targeting illegal downloader’s and piracy by filing a lawsuit against Allston, Massachusetts bar, The Draft.

According to a report by the Boston Herald, the promotion is seeking damages totalling $640,000 plus legal costs for an illegal screening of the UFC 104 event on October 24th.

According to eyewitnesses the bar hooked up a laptop to its television set and played the event in its entirety. The bars owner, Derek Brady claims he didn’t realise the customer providing the stream was doing so illegally.

So it costs $640,000 for a bar to get the UFC fight? lol Man I hate Zuffa. Do they really think hard core fans are going to pay 50 bucks a month to watch this crap?

Why not goto a bar? You can get an order of wings, fries, and a beer or two for like $25.

Thats what I usually do. More fun that way too. Plus the $100 bets with asshats who think Chuck beat the shit out of Shogun are nice too. But somethimes for fights like 108 that I'm just not excited about, I'll just stream. Hope Dana isn't listening. lol

the bar owner should have went with the PPV instead of the stream, i guess one of the patrons was mad at him for being cheap and snitched on him.

No shit, how else could Zuffa have found out, if not for someone snitching, right?

But, the bar owner is dumb because he claims to not have know the stream was illegal. It doesn't matter. As I mentioned on this thread before, I've worked for a satellite provider before. Because of this, I know that it's illegal for him to show the stream, even if it would've been purchased directly through the UFC website. A bar owner must order through a third party company who charges in the thousands, even for the smallest bars who occupy less than fifty customers. If they order the event like normal for $50 and show it for their customers, then they are breaking the law. His argument will never hold up in court, and unfortunately he will lose and go out of business.

I guess who ever snitched is going to need to testify in court???

That sucks and whoever snitched should get the Marcellas Wallace treatment from Pulp Fiction.

Dude, if that guy didn't know that, he deserves to never own or operate a business either! The price that they are asking is based on penalties that the other Purchasers have in their contract. This protects the payers who know that if they win they will get a few sheckels back.
