Professional Grappling League Empty
PostSubject: Professional Grappling League   Professional Grappling League EmptyMon Nov 26, 2012 4:42 pm

Countless warriors compete in regional tournaments that offer no avenue of career progression. The Professional Grappling League™ (PGL) is prepared to be the game changer, offering eight man tournaments and one super fight. Athletes will be personally selected to enter the ring for the chance to win cash purses and other prizes. Each combatant will be invited by the PGL only after earning recognition through amateur grappling circuits.

The fighters will walk to the ring with their own entrance music adding to the evening's excitement. The bouts will consist of three rounds that are three minutes in length. A one minute rest period will be provided, at which time advice can be given by coaches in order to keep the matches exciting. With this format, no longer will stalling be an option. Shorter rounds also assure a faster pace which will ultimately be crowd-pleasing.

Rules & Regulations

Professional Grappling League Rules and Regulations
Eligibility to compete in the Professional Grappling League™ is at the sole discretion of our matchmakers. No competitor will be considered without providing adequate credentials which demonstrate that he or she is in fact a high level grappler, can compete on a professional level and represent the Professional Grappling League™ as such.
Match Length
Every match shall be 3 rounds consisting of 3 minutes per round with a 1 minute rest period between rounds.
Methods of Victory
Submission
The referee shall call an end to the match by submission if one of the competitors taps a hand (or foot in the event a competitor has an arm or arms trapped in a position preventing use of the hand for tapping) 2-3 times in an apparent effort to signal a tap-out, verbally says "tap", or screams or emits a loud noise which the referee interprets as pain while the screaming competitor appears to be trapped in a submission hold.
The referee shall also call an end to the match by submission in the event one of the competitors loses consciousness due to a legal hold or otherwise loses consciousness other than as the result of an illegal technique which shall instead cause the referee to end the match by disqualification
Judges' Decision
Each match shall be judged by a three judge panel
Each judge shall score each round with a 10 point must system, based upon the following criteria. The criteria shall not be judged by any mathematical formula or point system awarding points for specific techniques, but rather upon the judges' overall assessment of which competitor set forth the superior performance of all criteria or any subset of the following criteria. All of the below-listed criteria shall be assessed by the judges with the guiding principle that the most successful technique is those which significantly improve position or constitute an effort to end the fight by submission. For example, if Competitor A executed four takedowns in one round, but did not pass the guard of Competitor B and Competitor B stood up quickly to a neutral standing position relatively quickly three times, and the fourth time swept Competitor A, landed in side control and controlled the remainder of the round from the top position while seriously threatening submissions with at least some degree of apparent near success, competitor B should win the round by a score of 10-9 or potentially 10-8 depending upon an assessment of the power behind Competitor A's takedowns as compared to the degree positional dominance of Competitor B and the degree to which Competitor B's submission attempts truly threatened submission.
Scoring Criteria
Takedown success: Takedowns shall be considered successful if the competitor successfully takes the other competitor to the ground from a neutral standing position, however a takedown should receive greater weight from the judges if the competitor lands in dominant, superior position on the ground as a result of the takedown, such as mount, side control or north south, whereas a takedown where the competitor lands inside the guard of the other competitor or a takedown from which the competitor taken down is able to quickly stand to neutral position shall still receive weight but less weight than takedowns which result in superior ground position.
Submission Attempts: Submission attempts may be subjectively factored in by the judges in the event the submission is a truly near submission. For illustrative example, a competitor attempting a kimura from the guard bottom who does not lock up the required grip or does not break the other competitor's strong defensive grip on the inside of his thigh as is necessary to finish the kimura, the competitor should not expect the attempt to carry weight with the judges.
Sweeps: Sweeps are defined as occurring when the competitor on bottom with the other competitor in his or her guard or half guard or any form of open guard reverses the (top/bottom) positioning of the competitors and maintains the reversed position for three seconds. As with other criteria, sweeps shall not be awarded points by any particular system, but shall carry weight with the judges to be factored into the judges' 10 point must scoring system.
Positional Control of Opponent
Aggression: Aggression shall be given weight as comparatively between the competitors such that the competitor who more aggressively launched sweep attempts, submission attempts or aggressively maintained superior positional control shall be considered to have had an edge in the aggression aspect of the round scoring, whereas a competitor who has only avoided sweeps and submissions or avoided rather than attempted takedowns shall be deemed to have exhibited inferior aggression in the given round.
Referee Stoppage: The referee may call a stop to a match if the referee, in his sole and unreviewable discretion, shall determine that a submission appears sufficiently threatening that there is an imminent danger of serious injury to a competitor.
The referee shall stop a match if for any reason the medical staff deems it unsafe for a competitor to continue.
The referee shall stop a match due to uncontrollable bleeding if the bleeding continues after one unsuccessful stoppage to attempt to control the bleeding if the first attempt is unsuccessful.
The referee shall stop a match if one of the competitors vomits or loses control of a basic bodily function during a match such as involuntary urination or bowel incontinence.
Legal and Illegal Techniques
Legal Techniques
Neck Cranks
Leg locks including inside heel hooks, outside heel hooks, calf slicers/crushes and knee bars

There shall be no attacking or attempt to make contact with a competitor before the match has begun, after the match has ended, in between rounds, or during any such time as a competitor is engaged with medical personnel
No spitting while on the competition area is permitted.
No swearing is allowed by a competitor, coaches and corners.
No deliberately throwing or otherwise trying to force a competitor out of the competition area
No unsportsmanlike conduct.

Ear guards (ear protectors) are not allowed in No Gi competition. Excessive taping of hands, wrists and feet is not allowed.
Knee pads may be worn but knee braces shall not be allowed and any knee pad must not have any solid, hard portion.
No stalling is permitted.
No going out of bounds to avoid a submission, takedown, or technique. Purposefully exiting the competitions are to avoid a submission will result in disqualification.
If applicable no grabbing the ropes, fence, or using the competition platform to defend against opponents techniques, or to attack your opponent.
Blood rule: Because there is no blood testing for grappling, a competitor who cannot control the bleeding will not be allowed to continue. In the event of bleeding, the Referee will stop the clock and allow the competitor a reasonable amount of time to stop the bleeding. If the competitor continues to bleed, that competitor will be disqualified. Bleeding is defined as an amount of blood that shows when a white cloth is pressed on the area.
No competitor can compete with an apparent skin disease or condition such as anything which appears to potentially be ringworm, impetigo, herpes, etc.
Hair Rule: Women and men with long hair are required to have her/his hair tied in such a fashion as to not interfere with the match. Due to the potential for injury to the eyes, and otherwise interfering with the normal play of a match, spiked hair, particularly spiked Mohawks, of a length and consistency sufficient to cause irritation to the eyes are prohibited. Spray painted hair that may have the color "run" due to sweat is also prohibited.
No Greasing.

I wouldn't mind seeing some retired or semi-retired MMA guys go at it in something like this. Randy vs Tito, Randy vs Fedor, Gumby vs Renzo, Monson vs Konrad.
