| To assume we're all there is out there is a mind numbingly chauvinist perspective. I imagine eventually this debate will be shattered when life on Europa is discovered. | |

| Humans have such a ridiculously inflated sense of self to think all of this was created for us by a magic king. | |

| Love the really big and the really small.
Small: 10 to the negative 16.
Lengths shorter then this are not confirmed. All objects smaller then this are unconfirmed. The sizes that they appear are only measurments. Some things like quantom foam are just parts of theories. They aren't facts.
(although when I first read "lengths shorter then this are not confirmed" I thought that possibly this was the smallest increment of distance physically possible. Which to me is an interesting idea, that nothing could be smaller, but they obviously think there are smaller things, even if they are not confirmed.)
Big: Galaxies to the Hubble space field.
"It's unknown where these galaxies are now, but where they were 12.7 billions light years ago, is 12.7 billions light years away from us."
Really cool stuff for sure.

| My astronomy professor said the only life that the underground ocean on Europa might have would be primitive life because more advanced creatures need sunlight to survive. | |

| Life on Europa is more likely to be organisms and bacteria. |

| Normally, baryonic matter obeys physical principles of relativity: they increase asymptotically in mass as they approach the speed of light, requiring more and more energy to approach it, and thus always remain below this threshold. Tachyonic matter, on the other hand, existed solely above the speed of light, and could not pass below said threshold. Hyperdrive technology allowed sentients to break this barrier and allowed slower-than-light starships to leap past the barrier and reach speeds many thousands or millions of times that of light. - Wookiepedia | |

| There are more conditions that a planet needs to meet in order for it to support life in addition to being in the habitable zone.
The two main ones are: 1. The planet needs to rotate fast enough to create a magnetic field. Venus meets all criteria for a planet able to support life except it has a weak magnetic field. 2. Volcanic outgassing is a key ingredient in creating a sustainable atmosphere. Mars probably supported some primitive life while its volcanoes were still active.
So instead of there being billions of planets that support life, there may only be millions.

How do you know there aren't trillions of planets in a never ending universe? | |

| According to what I learned in astronomy last fall, the universe isn't neverending. Astronomers can measure the size of the universe using the cosmic microwave background. | |

| It's a theory but there is another theory that states if the universe were infinite, there would be a star every place in the sky and nighttime would be as bright as daytime. | |
