Profiling The Flyweights Empty
PostSubject: Profiling The Flyweights   Profiling The Flyweights EmptyFri Mar 02, 2012 7:56 pm

WIth UFC's Flyweight tournament starting tonight, lets take a look at the 4 fighters in the tournament and several other fighters who might figure into the UFCs division.

Ian "Uncle Creepy" McCall - If anyone has a claim to already being the #1 ranked fighter in the division it is this man. When he beat Jussier da Silva under Tachi, he beat the man who was widely the consensus #1 in the division. Since beating da Silva he has won two more fights. Currently 11-2 and on 4 fight win streak.

Yasuhiro Urishitani - Current Shooto Flyweight Champ and the vet of the tournament, but has never fought in the states.Legit #3 in the division at moment. He however, has defeated the top men in the division (123 lbs, bantamweight) in Japan. Has very good stand up skills for a Japanese fighter and imo will have the better stand up than Benavidez. Currently on a 5 fight win streak. Is 19-4-6 and has avenged all but 1 of his losses. Also holds a win over recent TUF winner Jon Dodson.

Demetrius "Mighty Mouse" Johnson - One of the top Bantamweights in the UFC, was on a 4 fight win streak before dropping a tough unanimous decision to Dominick Cruz. Extremely fast and sticks to a workmanlike pace that led to his wins over Miguel Torres and Kid Yamamoto. First fight since the Cruz loss and he is arguably already in a lineal title fight. 14-2, losses to Cruz and Brad Pickett.

Joseph Benavidez - Another one of the top Bantamweights in the UFC who's only 2 losses came against Dominick Cruz. Tough fighter with good all around skills. Should be able to take Urishitani down, thats what he wants to do at least. 15-2 and on a 3 fight win streak.

Others who plan to get into the mix.

John Dodson - THe recent TUF winner looks impressive in what little amount of time we have had to see him. He seems like a more explosive version of Demetrius Johnson. But damn he has an annoying laugh. Is 12-5, on a 3 fight winning streak, but like I mentioned, already has lost to Yasuhiro Urishitani.

John Linekar - THis dude has been flying under the radar but the UFC has scooped him up so expect to know him soon. Is Currently 19-5 and on a 13 FIGHT WIN STREAK. Is fighting Louis Gaudinet, you know the green haired shrimp from TUF. Keep an eye out for him.

Jussier da Silva - Only man on this list not currently signed with the UFC. Was widely considered #1 in the division before losing to Ian McCall. Is currently 12-1 and on a 3 fight win streak after losing to Creepy. Considered #2 in the division at the moment.

Darren Uyenoyama - 7-3 and looked tough in his win over Kid Yamamoto, facing John Dodson, so we will find out.
