UFC 136 only gets 250K buys *updated*

According to Dave Meltzer UFC 136 only pulled in 175k buys 11 days ago.
Take the number with a grain of salt as I do not know Meltzer's numbers
are always accurate. We can only wonder how a card stacked with good
fights and TWO title fights got less than 200k buys.

The early estimate for UFC 136 on 10/8 from Houston is about 250,000 buys.

There had been rumors that the early estimate was as low as 175,000,
which is nothing short of terrible. Not that 250k is much better.
Meltzer puts it in perspective:

This would be the lowest number on PPV for a title match dating back
to probably 2005, and this was a show with two title matches and Chael Sonnen’s
return against Brian Stann . Two weeks between shows, and coming off a
show with what to the public was a far stronger main event (the 9/24
show did almost double this one) also didn’t help.

The National Championship game could have been that night and this would still be a disappointing number. I'm hoping it's not accurate.

there's so many PPV's these days perhaps people have run out of cash for them?

UFC 136 was one of the better looking cards of recent times though so it seems an odd time for sales to drop, but they've had enough PPV cards that were not deserving of PPV status in the last year or two that people shouldn't have paid for.

Kinda low considering how great a card it was on paper.

Wonder if 137 will take a hit now that GSP is off it.

I don't see how 136 could only do 250K. That had 2 title fights and Sonnen on it. Now Sonnen didn't hype it like he has in the past, but still a semi decent name for him and Anderson feuding.

I predict 137 to bottom out. Diaz-Penn just isn't going to get the eyeballs any GSP fight would get you.

We need more Lesnar to hype cards and less big names getting injured.

I guess that is why the UFC is all about character development these days. Your mouth can move you up faster then your fist ever will.

250K MMA fans sounds about right, which is why UFC's target audience is not MMA fans.

It's ashame fans will tune-in in their droves for Lesnar just because he's a HW but will ignore a mini lion in Edgar. Why do you Americans have to be so heightest ?

Truth is the regular/casual fans don't care about the smaller weight levels.

Not just an American thing. Freak had zero interest in the smaller weights not long ago. Still has extreme bias toward them.

This is 100% about the economy + the amount of PPV's.

The fox deal could not have come at a better time(well a little earlier would have been nice also), and I hope that first show gets such a big # that fox is falling over itself to put more and more free shows on.

I do wonder though, how bar buys are factored in. Does a huge bar still only count as 1 buy?

And how has the bar scene been? R people bellying up on a saturday night instead of staying home?

economy + amount of ppv's. Too much good free MMA out there(death of SF does not help) and most people I know are over paying that $$$ on a consistent basis.

Again more people may just be going to bars, tons of places near me have em.

Saturation maybe, but I still don't see the economy as a reason.

Meltzer is much more credible than anything on bloody elbow.

and that is a pretty disappointing figure considering how great their preceeding fight was.

Casual people don't give a rat's ass about Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard

The UFC should probably still be pulling in 300k at worst per PPV at this point though.
