MMA Fighting has confirmed that heavyweight prospect Dave "Pee-Wee" Herman has left the promotion and has already signed with the UFC.

Dave Herman may have remembered the Alamo, but he forgot about Sengoku, ditching the struggling Japanese mixed martial arts promotion for greener pastures in the deserts of Las Vegas, according to MMA Weekly (expanding on an initial report by MMA Fighting).

Following a messy legal battle with Bellator Fighting Championship in early 2010, Herman submitted Michael Kita (Omoplata) at BFC 31 last September. The victory over "Masakra" returned him to the win column after being disqualified for illegal knees against Rameau Thierry Skoudjou in Abu Dhabi.

The 6'5" Herman is 20-2 over the course of his five year career and he's finished 19 of his 20 victims (14 KO/TKO's, 5 submissions). He's an intriguing addition to the UFC's already blossoming heavyweight division.

Set to meet the former Bellator bumrusher is British "Bear" Rob Broughton.



The Liverpool native made his Octagon debut against Vinicius Kappke de Queiroz at UFC 120 across the pond last October, finishing the "Spartan" with a third round rear naked choke.

It was his fifth straight win and fifteenth overall. But will he be ready to play spoiler in "Pee Wee's" debut?

UFC 131 is expected to feature a main event between Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 13 coaches Junior dos Santos and Brock Lesnar. The winner will likely face division champion Cain Velasquez for the heavyweight title when the champ returns from shoulder surgery.

Good stuff

When I first saw Herman I thought he was a great looking prospect. Good wrestler, good submissions, some pretty powerful striking.

But he has never learned how to keep that chin tucked and he is a KO waiting to happen.

He has shown good survival skills vs lower level guys, but I think it catches up to him against higher competition.

He's a character though, no doubt about that.

they should have signed Ricco and made that fight that was suppose to happen at Bellator.

Very good signing, Herman is still pretty young with a lot of potential, he def needed to endup in the UFC or SF. I'm glad he got a perfect level of opponent for his first UFC fight too.

Wonder if any other fighters will come out of this?

UFC executives today announced that Joey Beltran (12-5 MMA, 2-2 UFC) and Dave Herman (20-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) will meet at UFC 131.

The UFC hw division is light years ahead now compared to 3 years ago.

i still think SF has a stronger overall hw div

1-7 strikeforce is probably stronger. 1-20 UFC easily.

actually, it goes deeper than just 7 dudes

I think after the top 7 guys in strikeforce it thins out quick while the ufc's 8-20 guys are more talented. Overall the UFC division is deeper.
