'Fancy Pants' vs. Pat Healy, Ryan Couture Targeted for Strikeforce Challengers 14

Lightweights Lyle Beerbohm and Pat Healy have agreed to main event the upcoming Strikeforce Challengers 14 event on Feb. 18, MMA Fighting has learned from sources close to the fight.

Strikeforce announced the event on last week's Challengers 13 broadcast, but have yet to announce the location of the card.

MMA Fighting has also learned that Ryan Couture is expected to compete on the card against a yet to be determined opponent.

"Fancy Pants" recently improved his record to 16-0. He's 2-0 under the Strikeforce banner, holding wins over Vitor "Shaolin" Ribeiro and Ray Perales.

Healy (23-16) is coming off a loss to Josh Thomson in June. Prior to that loss the Team Quest member had won his last three fights in a row.

The 28-year-old Couture won his pro MMA debut in August in just 75 seconds. He was supposed to return to action in November, but a staph infection forced him to pull out of the bout.

The card will be televised on Showtime.

While Healy is actually a very tough fight, and one that Beerbohm could most def lose, I figured he was in line for JZ or Josh, potential #1 contendors type matches. Maybe that still holds for Lyle, does a win vs Healy get him a title shot?

Also wonder where they go for an opponent for JZ. Billy E? Wilcox? Masvidal?

Healy is a great measuring stick for Beerbohm. Healy is tough. If Beerbohm wins, he should fight JT or JZ next.

I figured Beerbohm had already graduated to the title elimination type fights. But they are making him earn it. I think Healy gives Lyle his first L.

fell asleep as the show didnt start untill 11pm for me and i woke up at 5 in the morning, but i see Healy defeated Fancy Pants...not suprised. Healy is such a grinder and pretty good wrestler. He is what Team Quest is all about.

super tight, yet rather uneventful main event. Lyle was the aggressor in terms of making this a grinder. But I think Healy's size gave him a little more umph in the latter rnds. Neither guy was impressive per se.


Performance of the night imo went to Ryan Larson, looked pretty fluid standing, and made Apple look like a novice in the grappling dept.

Tarzan and Prater made quick work of their opponents, but I thought Larson was the guy that made a name for himself. From a lineup that I thought lacked prospects, a couple guys jumped out as very interesting.

I was gonna say I thought the size advantage played a roll.

Healy is a big lw, but Lyle looked like a small lw. Maybe it was just the shorts but Lyle has some tiny little legs.

well healy is a tall lw, not sure how big he would look next to a guy like JZ. And I hope that is a title eliminator matchup.
